Bring your own AI key

Use Kognix with your own API keys for unlimited, private usage.

What is BYOK?

BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) means connecting your own API key from an AI provider — Claude, GPT-4, Gemini, Grok, or others — directly to Kognix. Your requests go through your account instead of ours.

Why use BYOK?

Three reasons. First, no rate limits — free tier Kognix limits you to 30 messages per day. With your own key, that limit disappears entirely. Second, cost control — you pay only for what you use, often less than a subscription. Third, model choice — switch between Claude, GPT-4o, Gemini, Mistral, and 7 other providers instantly.

Is it secure?

Yes. Your API key is encrypted with AES-256-GCM before storage. It's never logged, never returned in API responses, and decrypted only for the duration of a single request. We cannot read your key.

How to set it up

  1. 1Go to Settings → API Keys in Kognix
  2. 2Click "Add or replace a key"
  3. 3Select your provider from the dropdown
  4. 4Paste your API key
  5. 5Click Save — it's encrypted immediately

Your key is masked after saving — you'll only see the last 4 characters. You can test the connection directly from the settings panel.

Which providers are supported?

Kognix currently supports: Claude (Anthropic), GPT-4 (OpenAI), Gemini (Google), Grok (xAI), Alibaba Qwen, Groq, Mistral AI, Together AI, Fireworks AI, Hugging Face, and OpenRouter.
